How can I protect myself from fraud?

Updated over 3 months ago

At Alaan, we’re dedicated to keeping your accounts and personal information secure.

However, fraudsters are constantly finding new ways to access sensitive information so it's paramount that you take an active role in protecting yourself and reducing the risk of exposure.

Configure your Account and Cards with the following settings in mind:

  1. Use Strong Passwords: Secure your login credentials with strong, unique passwords and never share them. Avoid reusing the same password across different platforms to enhance security.

  2. Multi-Factor Authentication: Add an extra layer of security and significantly reduce the risk of unauthorised access to your accounts, even if your password is compromised. You can do so by verifying your identity using Face ID, Fingerprint, OTP, or a Passcode for various actions. This extra step ensures that only you can access and manage your account.

  3. Merchant Country Restrictions: Limit card usage to merchants based in specific countries for better control and security. Learn more about setting country restrictions here.

  4. Merchant Category Controls: Limit card usage to merchants of certain categories (e.g. Fuel, Advertisement). More details can be found here.

Here are some additional security tips you should follow to keep your usage secure:

  1. Keep Card Details Private: Only use your card for transactions you initiate. Never share your card details (card number, CVV, or PIN) with anyone else. Sharing these details could result in unauthorised transactions that can’t be traced back to the person using the card.

  2. Verify Merchant and OTP: Always double-check the website you're transacting with, as fraudsters can create fake sites that look just like ones you've used before to trick you. When you receive an OTP, make sure the merchant name and transaction amount match what you’re expecting.

  3. Monitor Your Accounts: Regularly review your transaction emails for any unfamiliar transactions. If you notice anything suspicious, freeze your card immediately and contact our Customer Team.

  4. Beware of Phishing: Always verify the sender’s email address and phone number before clicking on links or sharing personal information. Alaan will never ask you to provide Card Details.

  5. Use Secure Websites for Purchases: Make sure the websites you're shopping on are secure by checking for "https://" in the URL when entering card details for online purchases.

  6. Be Careful with Physical Cards: Keep your card in a safe place and avoid letting it out of your sight when making purchases, especially at places like restaurants or other venues.
