What are Zero Limit Cards?
As the name suggests, a Zero Limit Card is a payment card with zero limit by default.
With these cards, cardholders must use their Mobile app to request funds from their approver, and only after approval will they have access to the funds to pay for an expense (or expenses). Approvers can also proactively make funds available to cardholders in the Cards menu on Alaan Web or Mobile (Admin) apps.
A Zero limit card ensures control over spending in the following ways:
The cardholder has no allocated limit; instead, they can only spend once they get approval for a particular expense or set of expenses.
The card shows how much is available to spend until the specified date.
The limit resets to zero on the specified date or after the approved funds have been spent.
Who is it for?
Zero limit cards were designed for employees who need to make occasional business purchases. Here are some of the common use cases:
Employees going on a one-time business trip
Employees who rarely spend but need to make ad-hoc purchases once in a while
Operational or junior staff who need to get approval before every spend
When unsure of what limit to assign
These cards may not be ideal for employees who need to make business payments frequently (e.g., sales team members) or urgently (operational staff who are buying business-critical supplies) or for senior employees who might not be willing to get pre-approvals.
This is what an employee will see on their app once they activate a Zero Limit card:
How can I create one?
Zero limit cards are currently available upon request. If relevant to you, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager or via [email protected], and we will activate this feature for your account.
Once enabled, follow the usual card creation flow making sure to select Zero limit under 'Spend Control'.
How can cardholders request funds?
Cardholders can easily request for funds on their Mobile app by following these steps:
Navigate to the Cards menu
Click + Request Limit button to request a limit for the card
Add the requested amount and an expiry date for the expense
Enter the Reason for request and upload Supporting document
Click Send Request
Once the request is submitted, the cardholder can view the pending approval request on the cards page.
How can a Card Approver approve a request?

Requests by cardholders will be listed under the tab Card Requests
Review any Supporting Document uploaded by the cardholder
If needed, change the amount and expiry date requested - alongside the Category Controls, like in any other card limit type
